The Origins of Human Design

Are you curious about the origins of Human Design? and how understanding the basics can help you navigate life with more ease and success?

In this blog post, we’ll dive into the origins and basics of Human Design. We’ll explore how this powerful system can help you understand your unique energy blueprint and live in alignment with your true nature.

Exploring the Origins of Human Design

Human Design is a synthesis of ancient wisdom and modern science. It provides a comprehensive map of your unique energy signature.

Have you ever heard the Human Design buzz phrase, ‘Human Design combines elements of the I Ching, Astrology, the Chakra System, the Kabbalah, and Quantum Physics’… And then no one explains what those words actually mean? Or how they tie in to create a system that can help you understand your strengths, challenges, and purpose in life? Don’t worry, you’re in the right place. Let’s dive into the origins and basics of Human Design.

I Ching

The I Ching is an ancient Chinese philosophical system. It’s one of the most preserved and ancient texts that remains intact today. The foundational concept of the I Ching is that there are two building blocks of energy in the whole universe – the yin and yang –  and that change is constant.

A hexagram is a 6-line figure, consisting of solid (yang) and split (yin) lines.

Each 3 lines (a trigram) relates to an element, and 2 trigrams together equal a hexagram.

Each hexagram has a name that corresponds to each of the 64 gates in Human Design. There are 64 gates in HD and 64 hexagrams in the I Ching.

You will see these Hexagram around the outside of your Rave Mandala Human Design Chart.

You’ll also notice the ‘energy and theme’ of each of the Hexagrams relates to the Gate in Human Design.

In this example you can see the Hexagram is made up of 5 ‘yang’ solid lines – the masculine determination topped by 1 ‘yin’ broken line – representing the resulting break through

Gate 43 in Human Design is the Gate of Insight and is located in the Ajna Centre which holds the energy of thoughts, opinions, ideals and concepts. Can you see how this all ties together?

Here’s another example:

In this example the Hexagram is made up of – yin – yang – yang – yin – yang – yin. It is much more balanced in that respect compared with Hexagram 43 above. The Well sustains life and provides depth and nourishment to human beings. It also represents stillness and spiritual nourishment.

Gate 48 in Human Design is the Gate of Depth, sometimes known as The Gate of the Well. In your chart, it represents the natural wisdom of intuitive solutions. It sits in the Spleen Centre and therefore is connected to survival, intuition, and health – much like the Well in the I-Ching.

The 64 Hexagrams in the I Ching are what inspired and created the 64 Gates in your Human Design chart.

Astrology

There are 13 different planetary influences that activate the gates in our Human Design. These are, Sun, Earth, North Node, South Node, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Saturn, Neptune, Jupitar, Mars, Uranus and Pluto.

Important: you will find some modern chart software that includes Chiron and other placements and adds them to your Human Design Chart. Human Design as a system was designed only to incorporate the above 13 placements and so it’s important not to use these modern versions of charts experimenting with additional placements. For some designs, one additional placement has the potential disrupt your Chart and even change your Human Design Type entirely.

Get a traditional Human Design chart with the 13 placements on my website HERE

The Gates on your chart are activated (defined) based on the location of the 13 influences in the sky at the time at the time you were born. Your chart takes two pieces of data – where were the planets when you were born (the black gate activations in your chart) and where were the planets 88 days before you were born (the red gate activations in your chart).

These two sets of data combined activates various gates in your chart, which then define or don’t define centres – giving your Human Design Type.

Each of the Gates in Human Design is also tied to an Astrology sign. You will again be able to see these by looking at your Rave Mandala Chart view.

Each Astrology sign holds a different ‘energy’ as those familiar with Astrology will already know. This gives an additional layer of information to each gate in our chart.

Chakra System

The Chakra system is a concept first written about in the ancient Vedas in India. It traditionally describes 7 energy centres in the body, each holding a different frequency of energy and teaches that when our main seven chakras are open and balanced, energy can flow and distribute freely through our bodies and minds.

You’ll likely by familiar with the concept if you practice yoga, reiki or other energetic modalities.

Although the 7 chakras are often still talked about, when Ra Uru Hu had his experience with ‘The Voice’ whilst receiving the system of Human Design he was told the Humans went through a transformative mutation in 1781 during the discovery of Uranus which saw the beginning of the birth of 9 chakra centre beings.

Despite the 7-centre chakra system being correct for the ancient times, Humans have continued to evolve ever since and this move from 7 to 9 centres was a shift in Human consciousness and marked the move from Saturnian bodies (connected to 29 year cycle) to Uranian bodies (connected to 84 year cycle). Which this also came an increase in life expectancy and humans began to live much longer.

The discovery of Uranus in 1781 was also the year Projectors (the newest of all the Types) first appeared signifying the end of the Manifestors rule, and beginning of the Projector era.

We must remember that the 9 centre beings we are now are still relatively new for humans. To put it in perspective, your great, great, great, great grandparents were likely 7 centre beings.

Human Design provides us with an educational framework to be able to explore ourselves as newly born 9 centre beings which a specific purpose.

The Kabbalah

The Kabbalah’s influence plays its part by contributing the energetic pathways that connect the 9 centres in the human design chart together. Each of the Human Design Centres are connected by 32 channels. They are based on the Sephiroth of the Kabbalah which has 10 globes and 22 channels (32 total).

These channels allow the connection and flow of energy around the body graph through the Hexagrams (Gates).

Quantum Physics and The Science Behind Human Design

A fundamental aspect of Human Design is based on what is scientifically known as the ‘Neutrino’.

Neutrinos are unusual particles that carry an infinitesimal amount of mass. About 3 trillion neutrinos, and the material information they carry, pass through every square inch of the planet per second.

Human Design is based on the this scientific concept that we are all influenced by neutrinos, subatomic particles that carry information from the universe. When we are born, the position of the planets and the neutrino stream imprints us with a unique energy signature that shapes our personality and design.

While some of the concepts in Human Design may seem esoteric or mystical, there is a growing body of scientific research that supports the idea that we are all connected to the universe and influenced by cosmic energy.

In fact, in 2015, scientists were awarded a Nobel Prize for the discovery of neutrino oscillations, which shows that neutrinos have mass and can change form. This discovery was predicted by Ra Uru Hu, the founder of Human Design, as early as 1991.

As neutrinos reach earth, some have passed through the moon, mars or another planet, and therefore taken on the energy and characteristics of those objects. As the neutrinos then enter our body (through the design or personality crystal) when we are born, we are influenced by this particle. It is the very basis of the unique frequency of individual consciousness.

Because our Sun produces about 70 percent of all neutrinos that travel through our solar system, this is why we say our ‘Conscious Sun’ Gate in our chart plays the biggest role in our overall design. You may even hear people refer to the Conscious Sun gate as your ‘purpose’.

How understanding the basics of Human Design can help you navigate life with more ease

The Four Human Design Types

Your Human Design ‘Type’ is determined on which of the 9 Energy Centres in your Chart are coloured in (defined) or white (undefined). The coloured and white centres are determined by the Gate (hexagram) activations. These are determined by where the planets were sat and what neutrinos passed through them at the time you were born.

In Human Design, there are four main types: Generators (and Manifesting Generators) Projectors, Manifestors, and Reflectors. Each type has its own unique energy signature and strategy for navigating life.

Generators and Manifesting Generators are the builders and creators of the world. They have a defined Sacral Centre and are designed to respond to opportunities that excite them in life.

Projectors are here to guide and lead others. They have an open Sacral Centre and are designed to be recognised for their expertise, and then invited rather than actively initiate opportunities.

Manifestors are the initiators and catalysts of the world. They have a defined Throat Centre connected to a ‘motor’ centre. This means they have the fuel to manifest / communicate / express things quickly. Their strategy is to inform others before acting.

Reflectors are the rarest type and are here to reflect the health of the community. They have no defined centres and are designed to wait a full lunar cycle before making major decisions.

The Nine Human Design Centers

In addition to the five types, Human Design also maps out nine energy centres in the body. These centres are similar to the chakras in traditional Eastern philosophy and represent different aspects of our energy.

As we discussed above, in 1781 Humans went through a jump in evolutionary development. We moved from a 7 centred to 9 centred being. You’ll notice that the centres are also in some occasions in a different location as a new 9 centre being than the traditional eastern teachings.

The nine centres are:

  • Head Centre: Inspiration and questions
  • Ajna Centre: Concepts, answers, opinions and thoughts
  • Throat Centre: Communication, expressions and manifestation
  • G Center: Identity, love and direction
  • Heart Centre: Material things, Will Power, Value and ego
  • Splenic Centre: Intuition, Immune System, Survival and  Intuition
  • Sacral Centre: Life force energy and sexual energy
  • Solar Plexus Centre: Emotional awareness, desire, nervous system
  • Root Centre: Adrenaline, stress and drive

Each centre can be defined (coloured in) or undefined (white) in your Human Design chart. Defined centres are areas where you have consistent energy and a fixed way of operating. While undefined centres are areas where you are open to the influence and energy of others.

Understanding where you are consistent versus open to conditioning can help you connect back to who you really are. This is because you notice and uncover who you really ‘are’ versus who you are not.

Following Your Strategy and Authority

One of the key components of Human Design is learning to follow your individual strategy and authority. Your strategy is based on your type. It helps you understand how you are designed to interact with the world around you for correct opportunities.

Your authority is your inner compass and body based decision-making process. There are seven different authorities in Human Design, including Emotional Authority, Sacral Authority, and Splenic Authority, among others.

By learning to trust your authority and make decisions from a place of alignment, you can experience more ease, flow, and success in your life.
